A former professional sportsman turned graphic designer, typographer, artist and teacher, James Coffman knows how to do almost everything... We're delighted to be working with him on an original capsule collection.
Aujourd’hui installé à Portland au Etats Unis, James Coffman a été joueur de baseball les 24 premières années de sa vie. D’abord dans l’équipe du lycée puis dans l’équipe pro des Diamondbacks pendant trois ans. « Après avoir terminé, je ne savais pas vraiment quoi faire, mais j’ai toujours eu une sensibilité artistique, les membres de la famille de ma mère sont tous des artistes » raconte-t-il au site Playbook. A la fin de son contrat, il s’inscrit alors à une école de design sans vraiment savoir de quoi il s’agit. Il se révèle doué, notamment dans le dessin de typographie, ce qui deviendra sa spécialité.
Inspired by the modern art of the first part of the 20th century, his drawing is very organic, his strokes very rounded and his figurative forms are simplified to the extreme.
James Coffman also enjoys working with clay. His pottery is like the rest of his work: simply harmonious!
We're delighted to be working with him to develop a capsule collection of some fifteen pieces: a workwear-inspired jacket, a shirt with an exclusive pattern, minimalist and colorful t-shirts and sweatshirts.
