James Coffman, guest artist
Mistica de la pintura
A former professional sportsman turned graphic designer, typographer, artist and teacher, James Coffman knows how to do almost everything... We're delighted to be working with him on an original capsule collection.
Now based in Portland, USA, James Coffman spent the first 24 years of his life as a baseball player. First with the high school team, then with the Diamondbacks pro team for three years. "After I finished, I didn't really know what to do, but I've always had an artistic sensibility, my mother's family members are all artists," he tells the Playbook website. At the end of his contract, he enrolled in a design school without really knowing what it was all about. He proved to be gifted, particularly in typographic design, which was to become his specialty.
Inspired by the modern art of the first part of the 20th century, his drawing is very organic, his strokes very rounded and his figurative forms are simplified to the extreme.
James Coffman also enjoys working with clay. His pottery is like the rest of his work: simply harmonious!
We're delighted to be working with him to develop a capsule collection of some fifteen pieces: a workwear-inspired jacket, a shirt with an exclusive pattern, minimalist and colorful t-shirts and sweatshirts.
