Valentine Reinhardt, guest artist

Each season, Bask in the Sun collaborates with several guest artists for its series of printed tees. Valentine Reinhardt is as at home behind a computer as with pencils or a camera. As an illustrator and visual artist, she creates dense, dreamlike and surreal digital images. Meet the artist.

You live in Paris, but we often see you in Guéthary. Why is that?
I'm originally from Guéthary, where I grew up. I come back here as often as possible to enjoy nature and surf. For me, the region is a great source of well-being and inspiration for my work. Nature is very present in my personal work. Surfing is the best way to clear your head when you arrive from Paris full of stress and pollution!

You describe yourself as an "image creator". How do you work on a daily basis?
Créatrice d'image" is a good way of putting it, because it doesn't lock the artist into a specific craft or technique. I really enjoy changing mediums depending on the project. I can paint as well as take photos, and I recently made an animated video clip. Digital tools are extraordinary, and at the same time painting or drawing by hand gives me a sensation of direct connection with reality that is captivating.

The tee shirt created for Bask in the Sun was inspired by an illustration from the 'Landscape' series .
This is a series of personal photos, presenting imaginary landscapes entirely recomposed on computer. These images open up a perspective of evolution towards landscapes devoid of humans, in which radiant nature lives in harmony with its environment. They are peaceful spaces, natural temples.

Finally, why did you agree to work with Bask in the Sun?
Because they're a local brand doing very creative work around ready-to-wear. They are curious, demanding and connect art with fashion. The collections are original and the products are top quality. I'm very respectful of people who make beautiful things, while respecting the world around them.
